SK5 steel is a Japanese carbon steel known for its high toughness and hardness. Named after the Japanese scale, its properties are similar to those of American 1080 steel, which contains approximately 0.80% carbon and up to 0.90% manganese.

This type of steel is designed to be very hard and durable, perfect for applications requiring high strength and wear resistance. On the HRC scale, SK5 steel ranks approximately 65, making it a very hard 2 steel. Its alloy composition increases its strength and abrasion resistance.
